The Wizarding World is getting bigger by the day! With HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter television series heading towards its Christmas debut, more exciting casting announcements are giving fans plenty to talk about.
Harry Potter fans, it’s time to get excited! Hogwarts is filling up, the magic is coming together, and we’re getting ever closer to returning to the Wizarding World.
HBO’s upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books continues to make headlines, with fresh casting announcements revealing just who will be bringing some of our favourite characters to life.
And there’s plenty of news to catch up on!
Five more familiar Hogwarts faces have been cast!
The latest announcement, revealed on 30 October, introduces five new additions to the television series, bringing some of Hogwarts’ most recognisable ghosts and magical characters to our screens.
Here’s who has been cast:
Leo Bill as Nearly Headless Nick, Gryffindor’s resident ghost.
Andrew Brooke as The Bloody Baron, Slytherin’s rather intimidating house ghost.
Daniel Fearn as The Fat Friar, Hufflepuff’s friendly ghost.
Laura Smyth as The Fat Lady, the portrait guarding the entrance to Gryffindor Tower.
David Threlfall as the voice of the Sorting Hat!
It’s wonderful to see HBO giving attention to these smaller but hugely memorable characters. After all, Hogwarts wouldn’t quite feel like Hogwarts without its ghosts, talking portraits and a certain enchanted hat!
More exciting casting news for the second season
The announcements aren’t just about the first season. HBO is already building towards its adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Some exciting names have joined the second season:
- Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart.
- Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley.
- Lenny Rush as Dobby.
- Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle.
- Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley.
- Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle.
- Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey.
Fans will also be pleased to hear that the casting of Harry’s parents and another Weasley family member has been announced, with Hannah Chinn as Lily Potter, Jasper Talbot as James Potter and Harry Gilby as Charlie Weasley.
There is certainly plenty to look forward to as the series continues to expand!
Who is playing our Golden Trio?
Of course, the biggest question has always been who will take on the iconic roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron.
HBO has confirmed:
- Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter.
- Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
- Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
They will be joined by an impressive adult cast, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Other familiar faces include Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley and Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick.
When can we return to Hogwarts?
The wait is nearly over!
The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to premiere on Christmas Day, 25 December 2026, on HBO and HBO Max, where available.
The first season will consist of eight episodes, allowing the story to explore the first book in considerably more detail than the original film adaptation.
Production on the second season, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is also underway.
Our thoughts: The magic is coming together!
There is something incredibly exciting about seeing the Wizarding World rebuilt for a new generation.
While the original films will always hold a special place in our hearts, this new television adaptation offers an opportunity to explore characters, relationships and moments from the books that didn’t always make it onto the big screen.
The latest announcements, particularly the casting of Hogwarts’ ghosts and the Sorting Hat, show just how much attention is being given to the magical details that make Hogwarts so special.
With more casting news potentially still to come, we’ll be keeping our eyes firmly on the Daily Prophet!
What do you think of the latest casting announcements? Are you excited to see these familiar characters brought back to life, and which character are you most looking forward to seeing?
