The wait for a proper look at HBO’s new Harry Potter series is finally over.
A brand-new trailer has arrived, giving fans a much better idea of how the first season will bring Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to television. While previous footage introduced the young cast and offered glimpses of Hogwarts, this latest trailer goes much further, showing several important moments from Harry’s first year.
And there is plenty for fans to talk about.
Harry’s First Moments at Hogwarts
One of the standout sequences is the Sorting Ceremony, where Harry faces the Sorting Hat alongside his fellow first-year students.
The trailer also gives viewers a more substantial look at the Great Hall and the scale of Hogwarts itself. The production appears to be placing considerable emphasis on the castle as a living part of Harry’s story, from its grand interiors to the smaller details surrounding student life.
For longtime fans, seeing these familiar moments recreated with a completely new cast is likely to be one of the most fascinating parts of the series.
Ron, Hermione and More Familiar Faces
Dominic McLaughlin appears as Harry, with Alastair Stout playing Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The new footage gives the trio more opportunity to interact, while also introducing viewers to several other characters who will become important during Harry’s first year.
Among the more notable reveals is Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell. His appearance offers another glimpse at the darker side of the story and hints at the dangers waiting beneath Hogwarts’ seemingly magical exterior.
Quidditch Finally Takes Flight
Another major moment in the trailer is our first substantial look at Quidditch.
Harry’s introduction to the wizarding sport is an important part of the first story, and the new footage suggests that the television series will have plenty of room to explore the action.
We also get another glimpse of Harry’s owl, Hedwig, alongside scenes involving flying lessons and life around Hogwarts.
The Magic Gets More Dangerous
The trailer isn’t focused entirely on the lighter side of Harry’s first year.
Several familiar pieces of magic and mystery make appearances, including the Invisibility Cloak, Wizard Chess and the Mirror of Erised.
There is also a particularly memorable glimpse of the troll, which appears to have been given a noticeably different visual interpretation from the creature seen in the original films.
The darker material becomes even more significant near the end of the trailer, with a brief look connected to the Potters and the events that ultimately set Harry’s story in motion.
A Fresh Take on the First Book
What makes this new series particularly interesting is the opportunity to spend considerably more time with the material from the books.
The original film adaptation had to condense a huge amount of Rowling’s first story into a single movie. HBO’s approach is instead planned as a television adaptation, giving the production considerably more space to revisit Harry’s introduction to the wizarding world.
The first season will adapt Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and is scheduled to premiere on Christmas Day 2026.
For fans who have been waiting to see this new generation of Harry, Ron and Hermione in action, this latest trailer is arguably the clearest indication yet of what HBO has been building.
And with Hogwarts, Quidditch, the Sorting Ceremony and some of the story’s darker moments now on display, there is certainly plenty to examine before the series arrives.
